Quad Biking in Marrakech: A Practical Guide to the Palmeraie Ride

Quad biking in the Palmeraie is one of the easiest outdoor activities to fit into a Marrakech stay: two hours on the bikes, a pick-up from your accommodation and no long drive out of the city. This guide covers exactly what our Palmeraie quad bike tour includes, what it costs, and how to choose the right departure time for the season.

Where you ride

The Palmeraie is the large palm grove on the northern edge of Marrakech. The ride follows palm groves, sandy trails and dry, open tracks just outside the city, so you get a change of scenery from the medina without spending half the day in a car.

How the two hours work

  1. Pick-up: a driver meets you at your hotel or riad and takes you to the starting point.

  2. Safety briefing: the guides explain how to operate the quad and give safety instructions before anyone sets off.

  3. First hour: a guided ride through the palm groves and sandy trails.

  4. Mint tea break: a stop for traditional Moroccan mint tea.

  5. Second hour: another hour of riding on different tracks.

  6. Return: the ride ends back at the starting point.

A guide leads the group throughout and can tell you about the surroundings as you go.

What is included and what is not

  • Included: pick-up, quad bike rental and the necessary equipment, the safety briefing, a professional guide, and the mint tea break.

  • Not included: meals and drinks (beyond the tea) and gratuities.

Which departure to choose: 09:00, 14:00 or 17:00

All three departures follow the same itinerary. The difference is heat and light.

  • 09:00 is the best choice from late spring to early autumn. Marrakech summer afternoons are very hot, often above 40°C in July and August, and the morning is the coolest time to be out in the open.

  • 14:00 works well in winter, when it is the warmest part of the day and the light is soft. Avoid it in summer.

  • 17:00 gives you the evening light and the cooler end of the day. In summer it is a good alternative to the morning. In mid-winter the sun sets early, so the second half of the ride can be dusky and noticeably colder; bring a warm layer.

The tour runs daily, except in extreme weather when safety could be compromised.

What to wear and bring

The tour asks you to bring comfortable outdoor clothing, closed-toe shoes, sunglasses, sun cream and a camera. A few practical additions:

  • Clothes you do not mind getting dusty. The trails are sandy and dust gets everywhere, so skip light-coloured or delicate clothing.

  • Long trousers protect your legs from sun and dust better than shorts.

  • A scarf or buff to cover your nose and mouth when the dust rises behind other quads.

  • Glasses rather than contact lenses if dust bothers your eyes.

  • A phone strap or zipped pocket, so nothing falls out on a bumpy track.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

Riders must be at least 12 years old, so it works for families with older children and teenagers; our family travel guide has ideas for younger ones. Pregnant women and people with back or neck problems are advised not to take part, since the tracks are bumpy.

Combining quad biking with other Marrakech activities

At two hours plus transfers, the ride leaves most of the day free. Some combinations that work:
