Morocco Private Tours: Your Own Driver-Guide, Your Own Route
A private Morocco tour means the vehicle, the driver-guide and the schedule are yours alone: no other travellers, no fixed departure date, pick-up at your hotel or riad and stops when you ask for them. Every tour we run works this way, from a single day out of Marrakech to two weeks across the country.
What “private” means on a Morocco tour
Many tours sold as private are shared minibuses with a private room at the end of the day. Ours are private from the moment you are collected:
- Your own vehicle for the whole trip, sized for your party, with your luggage staying on board between hotels.
- Your own driver-guide, who drives, explains the places along the route and handles check-ins, camp transfers and the small logistics.
- Your start date and start time. Tours leave the day you choose, not on a set weekly departure.
- Your pace. Longer at the kasbah, a coffee in a mountain village, a detour for a viewpoint: the day bends to you.
- Local guides where they matter, such as inside the medinas of Fes and Marrakech, booked for your party only.
Where private tours start
You can begin in any of the main arrival cities and finish in the same one or another. The most common starting points and the routes that suit them:
| Start | Typical private route | Good length |
|---|---|---|
| Marrakech | High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou, Dades Gorges, Sahara at Merzouga, back or on to Fes | 3–10 days |
| Casablanca | Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga, Marrakech | 7–13 days |
| Fes | Middle Atlas and Ziz Valley to Merzouga, then to Marrakech | 3–7 days |
| Tangier | Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara, Marrakech | 4–12 days |
| Agadir | Inland to the Sahara and back, or on to Marrakech | 4 days or more |
The full list of routes is on our multi-day tours page, and the Sahara options are compared on Sahara desert tours from Marrakech. For a single day, see the private day trips from Marrakech.
Who a private tour suits
Couples who want the route to themselves, families who need shorter driving days and flexible meal times, friends travelling together, photographers who want to be at the dunes for first light, and anyone who prefers not to fit a holiday around twelve strangers. If you are weighing it against a shared trip, our guide to private vs group tours in Morocco sets out the real differences in pace, route and cost per person.

How a private itinerary is put together
Most private tours start from one of the routes on this page and change from there. You tell us your dates, where you land and leave, who is travelling and what matters most; we send a day-by-day plan with driving times and where you sleep each night. Common changes are an extra night in Fes or Chefchaouen, Zagora instead of Merzouga for a shorter desert run, a luxury camp, or a day added on the Atlantic coast. If nothing on the list fits, start from a blank page on custom Morocco tours.
Realistic driving times to plan around
- Marrakech to Merzouga: about 560 km and 9–10 hours of driving over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, so it is split over two or three days.
- Fes to Merzouga: about 7–8 hours via the Middle Atlas and the Ziz Valley.
- Marrakech to Fes direct: about 6–7 hours on the motorway via Casablanca and Rabat.
- Fes to Chefchaouen: about 3.5–4 hours; Tangier to Chefchaouen about 2–2.5 hours.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most comfortable months. Desert nights are cold from December to February, and the interior often passes 40°C in summer, when early starts help.

Frequently asked questions
Are your Morocco tours really private?
Yes. Every tour is run for one party only: your own vehicle and driver-guide for the whole trip, hotel or riad pick-up and a start date you choose. You never share the vehicle, the guide or the schedule with other travellers.
Can I change the route of a private tour?
Yes. The listed tours are starting points. You can add or remove nights, swap Merzouga for Zagora, add Chefchaouen or the coast, choose a different desert camp or start and finish in different cities. We send the revised day-by-day plan before you book.
How many days do I need for a private Morocco tour?
Three days is the minimum for the Sahara from Marrakech. A week covers Marrakech, the desert and Fes, and ten days to two weeks adds Chefchaouen, Rabat, the Atlas or the Atlantic coast at a relaxed pace with fewer long driving days.
Is a private tour only for couples?
No. Private tours suit solo travellers, couples, families with children and groups of friends. The vehicle is chosen for the size of your party, and the pace, meal stops and activities are planned around the people actually travelling.
Where can a private tour start and end?
Tours can start in Marrakech, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier or Agadir, usually with pick-up at your hotel, riad or the airport. They can finish in the same city or a different one, which is useful when your flights arrive and leave from different airports.
